Gil has been an avid swimmer all his life, competing when he was younger and in college at the University of Pennsylvania before taking time off to complete his medical training in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. He has been a practicing physician in these fields as well as emergency medicine and urgent care.
He first became interested in triathlon and distance events in 2012 after watching a friend’s race and joined RTC soon after in preparation for his first Olympic distance race, the Westchester Triathlon. Since that time, he has completed many Sprint to Half-Ironman distance races. Although his background is in swimming, he has challenged himself and completed multiple running and cycling races including a dozen half marathons, the NYC Marathon, and several century bike events including the Mt. Washington Century+ ride.
His passion has always been for the water. Although open water distance swimming has been a later in life interest, he has completed multiple 1.6k to 10k swim events, including a crossing of the great South Bay from the Fire Island light house to Bayshore Long Island, multiple Fire Island Ocean swims, Hudson River distance swims, and a Casco Bay crossing in Portland, ME, with hopes of many more.
One of the highlights of his triathlon experiences has been his ability to train with and successfully compete with his kids in relay events. He has also enjoyed using his medical skills in giving back to the sporting community volunteering at many events including the NYC Marathon, NY Empire State Games, Maccabee Games, Ironman NYC, NYC Triathlon, PGA & USGA events, CAF San Diego Tri Challenge and local events such as the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation Triathlon.
Gil lives in Larchmont with his wife Martha, teenagers Rebecca, Adam and Jonah, and sometimes running companion Cody, an Australian Shephard.
Sally Loftin is an accountant specializing in the architecture and engineering field. She joined a running group in 2016 where she met some amazing women who inspired her to do more. She rekindled her love of biking and swimming, something she had always enjoyed as a kid. She became a member of the Rye Tri Club in 2018, joining Louise on Tuesdays for bike rides and Cathy on Thursdays for open water swimming; she became a triathlete in August 2018 after completing the Jersey Girl Tri.
Due to back and knee injuries, Sally can't run but she’s a super fast walker who has completed several 5ks, 10ks, 3 half marathons and 4 sprint triathlons since 2016. She was set to do her first olympic tri in 2020 but that was derailed due to covid.
Sally lives in Yonkers with her dog Chips and has a daughter, Cassandra, who became a registered nurse in 2020. Sally is an avid dog lover, she enjoys spending time with friends and also enjoys time at home, curled up with a good book or watching Netflix shows. She is looking forward to nicer weather so that she can get back into her routine of walking, biking and swimming.
Sally is excited to join the board as treasurer, this is her way of giving back to the group that helped her become a triathlete.
